Neighborhood cleanup reaches Area 4

2010-02-16 15:57:10

The city of Yuma's neighborhood cleanup continues this week with Area 4 through Thursday.

City residents living in the area between 16th and 8th streets from Avenue A to the city's western boundaries should start setting their unwanted items at the curb to have them removed by the city's Public Works Department.

There is no additional charge for the service during the annual residential neighborhood cleanup.

Next week, the cleanup moves to Area 5, the section of the city bordered by 16th Street on the south, 8th Street on the north, the East Main Canal on the west and the eastern city limits. Those residents will have their items collected Feb. 22-25.

During the popular annual spring cleaning program, public works employees make weekly rounds through Yuma neighborhoods and pick up bulky items that are no longer wanted, such as broken furniture, appliances, tree trimmings and lawn clippings.

• Residents are asked to place all items at the curb for collection at the beginning of the neighborhood's designated week.

• Do not block or place items close to trash containers and water meters.

• Loose items should be bagged, boxed or tied, and must be easily handled by two people.

• Separate piles of appliances, tires, bound limbs and miscellaneous items as they will be picked up by different crews.

• Do not leave the items for collection in alley, except for homes facing Avenue A.

More information and maps are on the city's Web site at www.ci.yuma.az.us under Public Works, or call 373-4500.
